The researchers in Shanghai China published an article tittled Characterization of ppGalNAc-T18, a member of the vertebrate-specific Y subfamily of UDP-N-acetyl-α-d-galactosamine:polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferases, which pointed out for the first time that the regulation system of new protein glycosylation can exist in ER. Sugar chain is the third macromolecular after the nucleic acid and the proteins. The research of the sugar chain structure and function is a new field for scientists.
